The History Of The Bristol Austin Seven Club
The club was formed in May 1965 by twelve Austin Seven enthusiasts, some of whom are still members today -- Since then the club has grown in strength to over 500 with many international members.
The main club meetings are held on the last Friday of each month except in August and December at 'The Bull' in Hinton Dyrham (map). Activities include drinking, socialising, film shows of club runs, talks on various subjects and demonstrations to mention a few. We also have a meeting on the first Friday of the month at a different pub every month - contact the club secretary for details.
In 1968 we held our first static rally at Longleat. Since then we have held one every year and now attract about 150 - 200 entries a year. In 1978 we decided a change of venue was in order and moved to Berkley Castle which was a great success. After five years there, the club was offered the use of Spye Park near Chippenham, which was accepted because of the delightful setting. We had many very successful rallies there and the tranquil setting made it an ideal place to camp. We moved on to having our annual rally at Lackham Agricultural College near Lacock - about five miles from the Spye Park site. Our major Rally has now returned to Longleat and is increasing in popularity year on year. This rally provides a golden opportunity to show off all the work you have done on your car in the last year.
Throughout the year club members organise a number of weekend events. These begin with a weekend in February. Other runs include North Devon and the Easter Rabbit Run. In November a club member often organises a weekend break in a hotel. All activities are flexible and include walks and sightseeing during the day with a social Saturday night.
Every year a trophy is presented to the club member who the committee feel has done something special for the club in the last year. Another is awarded for the "Driver Of The Year", and one to the driver who has had the biggest disaster for their car in the last twelve months. Trophies are also awarded at some club runs for various achievements decided by the event organiser.
